Study Background
I began this study because I wanted to
understand how my students used the literacy
content in my course in their literacy
activities with young children. I
knew that my students read stories to
children, but I wanted them to do so in
ways that would build those critical
skills recommended in the research literature,
namely print awareness, phonological
awareness, oral language enrichment
and story comprehension. I taught
them about the importance of emergent
literacy skills, but had I done so in ways
that would help them to foster these
skills for children?
