The culminating piece of this strategy is the direct detection of
DFG at sea. Direct detection can take place using a variety of sensors
and sensor platforms from the human eye shipboard at sea
to a hyperspectral sensor mounted on an unmanned aircraft.
Achieving this strategy component relies largely on progress made
in describing characteristics and behavior of DFG and indirect
detection. Recommended actions relating to direct detection
include the expanded testing of platform and sensor technologies
and the consideration of cost efficiency in associated research
and development activities. Again, the partnerships involved in
the implementation and execution of these activities are critical
to the success of the overarching strategy.
