In Cape Charles, the 55 acre Sustainable Technologies
Park includes a cement plant, a port and a
railroad yard. Soon the park will be expanded to
570 acres to include a coastal dune habitat preserve,
and a constructed wetland for wastewater treatment
(Salvesen, 1996). According to Dunn, a Swiss solar
panel manufacturer will locate in the park; adding
photovoltaics to the proposed aquaculture, food processing,
and agriculture industries. The park objectives
would focus on waste recycling, energy
ef®ciency and, sustainable economic development
(Dunn, 1995).
