Compared with Ryanair, Easy}et traditionally struggled on the profit front, as it strove to bring down its costs. However, from the mid-2000s, its results moved into profit. In contrast to airline industry peers, the airline traded resiliently in 2009 during the recession, as it was one of the few airlines globally to make a profit, with an underlying pretax profit of £43.7 million. Revenue grew by 12.9 percent to £2,666.8 million, partially offsetting the £86.1 million increase in unit fuel costs (equivalent to £1.63 per seat).
