The act of plagiarism, in other words, stealing someone else’s idea, is oftentimes called “inspiration” in the advertising business. And “inspired” they were, the breweries of other German courts, which decided to borrow the logo of Munich ’s Hofbräuhaus. In order to put a stop to this, brewery director Johann Nepomuk Staubwasser officially registered this world-famous trademark, first at the Munich Regional Court and a short time later, at the Imperial Patent Office in Berlin “to be used solely for the firm Royal Hofbräuhaus in Munich ”.
