As the report states, Timor Stream got underway at 0248 on March 10th, leaving the Dominican Republic and headed for the United Kingdom. The crew was in transition from an in port watch to an at sea watch, therefore after the Chief and Second Officer completed a stowaway search, the Master found it best that he take the watch and send the other two officers to bed. Although a lookout was available, the Master did not call for one and was on the bridge alone. At 0416, the Master set the autopilot to 43 degrees true and was turning 19.5 knots. He then sent e-mails, plotted his position, wrote in the log book, and then slightly adjusted course to 41 degrees true before occupying himself with other tasks (MAIB, 2013).
