These fossil logs are the longest reported today. With 72,2,ฝm log 1 is double the size of the longest logs of most petrified forests around the world it greatly exceeds the longest yet recorded fossil log ,at 51.7m from the Jurassic of argentinean Patagonia (falaschi,2009) the preservation of these giant logs was made possible only because of quick burial of little transported flood plain trees by rapid sedimentation, due to the uplift of the western mountain range, followed by rapid silicification, related to contemporaneous volcanic activity (Rhodes et all 2005).the process might have boon helped by high original silica content in the wood.
