Clinical isolates and the ATCC strains were cultured in Todd Hewitt medium at 37 °C for three days, replacing the medium every 24 h (0.1 mL of culture in 9.9 mL of new medium). On the third day, 10 μL samples of each culture were placed on germ-carriers (N = 18). The 18 carriers were left to dry for 60 min and four carriers were placed at each location (4 × 4 = 16). The last two were placed in the control room. Treatment consisted of a 35 min application of mist followed by a 2 h waiting period, as recommended by the manufacturer for the volume of our test room.
