Meat is typically defined as the flesh, muscle tissue and organs from animals, particularly mammals such as cows, pigs and lamb. Birds such as chickens and turkeys are often classified generically as meat, but sometimes differentiated as poultry. Fish has its own category and is not usually referred to as meat.
