The JSC Toxicology Group and U.S. Navy submarine environmental scientists are working toward collaboration on the capabilities and applications of the Air Quality Monitor (AQM). This monitor is being manufactured according to requirements developed by the JSC Toxicology Group and supporting engineers. Draper Laboratories in Cambridge, MA has already delivered 4 units for eventual use aboard the ISS. The units will be sent to the JSC Toxicology Laboratory for evaluation, scientific verification, and calibration. The laboratory has made contact with several interested parties in the U.S. Navy submarine community and has invited an expert from the Naval Medical Research Unit, Dayton, OH to observe verification testing, which is expected to be ongoing this July
