However, our findings are different from those of Byrne and Willis (2005) who found that female Irish
secondary school students had a neutral perception on accounting profession while the male students considered
it boring. We found that both male and female students perceive accounting profession in Ghana as interesting,
respected, valuable and worthwhile. Moreover, while in South Africa, Wessels and Steenkamp (2009) found no
such significant difference between perceptions of male and female accounting students, our findings are
contrary.
