Well there is corruption all over but one thing we got in the U.S. is the law. Filipinos who live here are known to remark how they love to see politicians going to prison in the U.S. In my life time I've seen a few sitting governors gone to prison like Edwin Edwards in Louisiana and Rod Blagojevich of Illinois and a few more governors from Illinois. And count in mayors and public officials like police for corruption. We got the FBI here who would lock up a sitting United State senator if they have to and they have. But Philippines appears one can buy their way out of justice. Someone from there told me how some judges are afraid to take cases involving the rich and powerful because one of the judges was murdered. It's very rare that people who are convicted here have people on the outside of prison go after judges or prosecutors who put them in prison. So it's not so much that every country got corruption but it's how the government of each country is able to deal with corruption and send people to prison without them bribing judges or shooting people in the justice system.
About a month ago someone transferred $81 million dollars from the New York Federal Reserve Bank to a bank in the Philippines. They stole the money from Sri Lanka. According to Filipino officials when they asked about the video in the bank they were told the cameras were not working. So they have no images of the people who collected the money. Contrast that with the average home owner where I live and businesses have video cameras that are constantly rolling. That's why the police are able to solve a lot of crime. Those men who went into the bank to collect that money there should have been security cameras on buildings in the vicinity of the bank to videotape them as they walk to ward the bank.
As for pollution and garbage it shows a lack of being civic minded. People don't have to wait for the government. They can organize themselves to clean up. I remember some people had organized to clean up the big lake in Prospect Park in Brooklyn because people had thrown all sorts of garbage in there. The Parks Department does not have the budget and manpower to clean the lake so ordinary citizens came in and did it. Instead of people becoming angry and taking offense they should step up and make a difference and disprove naysayers.
