In the current study, supplementation of a weaner pig diet
with microbial phytase has proven to be an effective method
for enhancing the digestibility of P and Ca. However, its effect
on N utilization has not always been consistent and the basis
for the protein response to added phytase remains largely
speculative (Adeola and Sands, 2003). In this study, phytase
supplementation did not result in any change in N utilization.
Jendza et al. (2005) similarly demonstrated the lack of phytase effect on N utilization in weaner pigs with an initial
BW of 10.1 kg when fed 500 and 1000 FTU/kg of phytase in a
basal diet containing 2.4 g aP/kg.
