The current leading body for such accreditation is Joint Commission International, a US-based organization widely seen as the gold standard for top-level healthcare service providers worldwide.
Hospitals seeking JCI accreditation are evaluated through stringent procedures, based on over 300 standards, including onsite inspections and personnel examinations. Only hospitals showing a strong commitment to continuously improving service quality and patient safety goals are awarded this distinction. Above all, the international standards are intended to stimulate continuous, systematic and organization-wide improvement in overall performance and outcomes.

Joint Commission International Disease or Condition-Specific Certification
In 2002, Joint Commission International launched its Disease or Condition-Specific Certification (DCSC) – the first international program of its kind to certify disease management programs. To earn this distinction, a disease management program undergoes an extensive on-site evaluation by a team of Joint Commission International reviewers. The JCI Disease or Condition-Specific Certification is designed to provide a comprehensive evaluation program that can support healthcare providers in improving the safety and quality of their services.
