For the first series of models, models were specified such that the mediator (RFL-YA total score) was regressed on correlated independent variables (depressive symptoms and hopeless- ness), while the suicidality outcome (ideation or attempt) was regressed on the mediator and the independent variables simultaneously. The second series of models was identical to the first with the exception that the RFL-YA total score was replaced by the five RFL-YA subscales, serving as simultaneous mediators. Correlations between disturbances of the RFL-YA subscales were specified. Model fit indices are not presented given the just-identified nature of each of the models. Of note, within each of these series, an estimate of total effects (i.e., the suicide outcome regressed on depressive symptoms and hopelessness) was obtained by conducting an identical set of models with the exception that all parameters (e.g., regression paths and covariances) involving the mediator(s) were set to zero.
