New designs are
available that allow this distance to be increased
to as much as 4.5 times the mounting distance and
still attain uniform lighting. This is particularly
important in greenhouses with benches or low
ceilings and in multi-layer growth rooms. Figure
6–5 on the facing page and Figure 6–6 on page 102
show germination units using fluorescent tubes. The
walls and ceilings of greenhouses and growth rooms
should be painted white to serve as a reflecting
surface. Shields are available for some reflectors
to reduce the amount of light that spills into nonproduction
areas.
