Taking away privileges
commonly used with all ages
Taking away a privilege is a negative consequence of bad behavior. It means to remove a desired item or activity from a child for a limited time. This can be used at any age but works especially well with older kids. Privileges to take away may include the loss of dessert or a child’s favorite snack, not being allowed to stay up late or watch a movie, not doing a fun activity or the loss of cell phone, tablet, computer access.
