Another exciting development, which has not yet been applied
to Pacific populations, is the analysis of DNA obtained from ancient
calculus or dental plaque adhering to teeth (Adler et al., 2013;
Metcalf et al., 2014). These analyses can provide a wealth of information
regarding the health, diet and other aspects of ancient individuals
and will also no doubt prove to be useful in tracing
population origins, interactions and adaptations.
