1. Emergency Fire Alarm System: A system used
in a building consisting of components and
circuits used to monitor and notify occupants of a
fire alarm or supervisory condition. The fire
alarm system consists primarily of initiation
devices used for detection and monitoring of
conditions, and notification devices used for
alerting occupants of a detected condition.
2. Initiation of the fire alarm system required by
this guideline should be by ANY of the following
means:
a. Manual fire alarm boxes throughout the facility
at designated locations / spacing; Automatic
fire detection system (e.g. using either smoke
and / or heat detectors) throughout the
building, plus at least one manual fire alarm
box; or
b. A Fire Sprinkler system that is supervised by
the fire alarm system, providing complete
coverage throughout the building, plus at least
one manual fire alarm box.
