Social dominance theory incorporates many theories of
oppression to explain sources of group-based prejudice and
discrimination (Aquino, Stewart & Reed, 2005). The theory
presupposes that inequality is inevitable. Its main tenet is
that group-based social hierarchies are the fundamental
structures of all human societies. One or a few dominant
groups own a disproportionately large share of positive
social value or material things. Conversely, subordinate
groups have a disproportionately large share of negatives
(Sidanius & Pratto, 1999).
