The worldwide industrialization and urbanization have
enhanced release of organic and inorganic pollutants in soil
and water. Among industries, textile is one of the main contributors
of water pollution. Textile effluent contains dyes and
pigments, surfactants, grease and oil, metals, sulfate and
chloride and these adversely affect the quality of water. The
dye in water inhibits the penetration of light in water and
ultimately decreases the photosynthetic activity and oxygen
concentration in water. Moreover, textile effluent has carcinogenic
and mutagenic effects and potentially toxic to all life
