Ascertainment of Events
Information about deaths was obtained from review of
medical records, registers of municipality, and autopsy
reports. Ascertainment of mortality in the InCHIANTI
Study was 100%. The incident events in this report
occurred after baseline and through May 30, 2006, with a
mean duration of follow-up of 6 years. Cardiovascular
deaths were defined as due to atherosclerosis, including
peripheral vascular disease, cerebrovascular events, coronary
heart disease, and other cardiovascular causes, including
CHF.
