From this summary I hope it is clear that from my perspective the interview panel could not recommend the award of a PhD for this work to the University without major revisions and additions to the research. I would add that I believe the subject was dealt with in a very sincere way and that Mr Wasinghon feels passionately about the region, its people and the topic of his work. I sincerely hope, largely because of this dedication, that amendments can be made and that with the help of his supervisors he can resubmit his work for examination. I believe the panel agreed that if it was permissible a revised text would be sent to me in good time ahead of the examination date and that if the thesis was satisfactory there may not be a need for me to attend a further viva, but if this were necessary I would be willing to do so.
