ABSTRACT
China has a long history in aquaculture that goes back 2500 years. However, key advances
followed the artificial breeding of carp in the 1950s. This chapter focuses on the development
from the 1980s to the present, discussing the major issues in the developments, current
and future trends and challenges, and the roles of Shanghai Fisheries University and the
WorldFish Center in addressing these concerns.
