Finally, the growth in research into strategic hospitality HR should be noted. One
of the early research articles into strategic HR was Hiemstra’s (1990) study on
hospitality HR practices and policies. Since the early 1990s, hospitality HR research
has followed the general HR literature trend of strategically locating HR practices
within an organisation’s business strategy (Fulford and Enz, 1995; Phillips, 1996).
Kelliher and Johnson (1987, 1997) examine the extent to which hotels in the UK are
adopting a human resource management rather than a personnel management approach.
