The decrease was more noticeable in belowground structures,although stems biomass has also shown tendency to decrease. Despite this, stems biomass percentage in relation to total weight remained similar to other treatments. So, of the various ways that microorganisms can influence phytoremediation, such as stimulating plant growth, promoting resistance to stress caused by contaminants or altering of contaminants availability in the rhizosphere, in the present study, the likely role of the microbial consortium consisted in changing copper speciation in sediment, resulting in a higher metal bioavailability.
