• The economic, social and cultural crises in rural areas have made living from agriculture increasingly difficult, more so when land is grabbed from farmers. The rural culture and agricultural practices vanish along with the people who were forced to flee. Some displaced villagers from rural areas become immigrant workers in their home country or abroad, or worse, trafficked. Young people who try to financially help their families often fail to find decent jobs. In some cases, the crises have resulted to suicides, as in Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand and the Philippines. Land grabbing has potential massive impact on citizens’ economic, social and cultural welfare.
