The commonest cause of accidents (62 %) is a fall.
Children slip or trip at ground level, or fall from above
ground. Falls from above ground are common, particularly
on playgrounds outside school premises. The
second most common cause of accidents occurs when
children collide with fixed objects or with each other.
Collisions are more common in school playgrounds
than in other playgrounds. Other accidents include
children getting caught or trapping themselves in something,
cutting themselves, hurting themselves on
sharp objects or getting something in their eyes.
