Lesson SEN 10
Task: Jump, and maintain balance after.
Prerequisites: SEN 9
Concept: The reason for requiring the ability to run or jog (SEN 9) before performing this skill is because that ability has some aspects that are important to maintaining balance after a jumping action is performed. The main focus of this skill is balance. Efforts to jump using both feet at the same time are desired. The beauty or grace with which this task is accomplished is secondary to maintaining balance after the act.
Behavioral Objective: When requested to jump, in a structured setting, the student will perform that task with both feet at the same time for an approximate distance of 24 inches to a 90% accuracy level for 20 trials.
Materials: Color paper and tape.
Task Analysis:
1. Place two different sets of color paper on the floor and secure them with tape. Each set should be spaced for normal placement of the feet. One set marks the beginning placement of the feet. The second set is secured about 12 inches in front of the first set. Assist the student is standing on the first set of paper and physically guide him or her in walking or moving to the next set. This first step should be performed one foot at a time.
2. Continue Step 1, modifying the movement from stepping to jumping with both feet. Be sure to provide full physical support to the student in this step.
3. Modify Step 2 by gradually increasing the distance to be jumped froth 12 inches up to 24 inches.
4. Continue Step 3, reducing physical guidance and support until none is needed.
5. Remove the paper prompts and verbally encourage the student to jump. Continue until the objective is met.
