As for ordinary mobile base stations, in
preparation for widespread longer-term power
outages, 1700 critical mobile base stations have
been selected, and these stations have started to
receive increased backup power capacity. The
selection criteria of these stations focus on covering key public facilities such as government
offices and so on. Seven hundred of these stations now contain generators with enhanced lifetimes; the base station continues to run as long
as there is fuel. Another 1000 stations received
extended capacity, so they can run for more than
24 hours. For reference, the original backup
capacity of both groups of stations offered a run-time of just a few hours.
