At present farmers in Indonesia mostly use synthetic pesticides to manage pests in pepper plantations, posing potential risks for local workers, consumer s and the environment. Concerns over health and environmental problems associated with the synthetic pesticide s currently in use in agriculture have led to an intensification of efforts to find safe, effective, and viable alternatives. Hence, in recent years efforts have been directed towards studying active ingredients derived from natural products to develop plant-based botanical pesticides. Botanical pesticides may answer the need for safer compound s to protect plantations from attack by a wide range of pests.
