Prior to analysis, the samples withdrawn at each time interval
were centrifuged at 6000 rpm for 10 min, and then filtered
through a 0.22 -mmpore size filter to remove the catalyst particles.
The solids particles were dried in vacuum freeze dryer for
overnight in the dark, and then which were used for analysis.
The filtrates were collected and analyzed, Cr(VI) ion was
determined spectrometrically (SHIMADZU UV-2501, Japan) at
540 nm by analyzing the complex formed with 1,5-
diphenylcarbohydrazide (Schrank et al., 2002). The concentration
of phenol was also determined spectrometrically (SHIMADZU
UV-2501, Japan) at 510 nm by the 4-aminoantipryrine
method. A calibration based on BeereLambert law was used
to quantify the concentration. Total organic carbon (TOC) was
determined using a TOC-VSH analyzer (SHIMADZU, Japan).
