For the first purpose the equipment is to be used as a meteorological aid in the detection and tracking of storms as well as controlling and directing operations. In this case, the user wishes to obtain information from as great range as possible, which necessitates operating as low angle of elevation with good field of view throughout 360 in azimuth, although for short range information an angle of elevation of about 2 may be used (Clift, 1985); besides, information on the vertical structure and evolution of a storm is needed to assess the operational status and decide and control seeding missions.
