In Latin America, the PLATINO and PREPOCOL studies
assessed the burden of COPD and highlighted risk factors
such as tobacco smoking across their study settings
[11-13]. However, there is a critical gap in our understanding
of COPD across diverse geographical and social settings.
Peruvians live in densely populated urban areas as
well as rural village settings, along the coast and in the
Andes Mountains, and we sought to characterize variation
in prevalence and risk factors for COPD.
