Training & Skills
As part of a cohort of EPSRC DTG Scholars, the
successful candidate will receive bespoke training of
broad relevance to their career development through
Strathclyde’s Postgraduate Certificate in Researcher
Professional Development.
The successful candidate will make extensive use of the
Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering’s
recently-renovated, state-of-the art labs. The student
will develop a unique set of laboratory skills combining
chemical, microbiological and geotechnical testing
methods. The student will be expected to present
posters and talks at conferences and is likely to spend
some time away from Strathclyde University. geo-environmental industry, including at least one industry placement during the scholarship period. Instructors on the training programme will be expert academics and experienced water professionals.
The supervisory team supporting your development as
an independent researcher bring expertise in
geotechnical engineering (El Mountassir); contaminant
transport and remediation (Switzer); and hydrogeology
(Lunn).
This project will result in an in-depth knowledge of how
contamination and remediation affect soil properties and
hydro-mechanical behaviour and potential approaches to
engineer the reuse of these materials. At the end of the
project, the student would be well qualified for
employment in specialist research, geoenvironmental
engineering, geotechnical engineering, and other areas.
