reported that perchlorate reduction could be temporarily
stimulated by addition of ZVI with adequate pH control, but the iron
corrosion products would appear to accumulate and encapsulate
the bacterial cells afterward, which resulted in inhibiting bacterial
activities. The inhibitory impact was thought to associate with the
amount of ZVI added. The inhibition was caused by high ZVI concentrations
due to a corrosion-induced increase in pH beyond the
optimum range of the bacteria [19]
