The aim of this study is to shortly describe and compare eleven of the manifold environmental
systems analysis tools to visualise differences and similarities, weaknesses and strengths. This
is done to the greater part from a Swedish perspective. The study will hopefully facilitate
choice of tools as well as critical interpretation of results. The study is not at all aiming to
create a complete list, a more thorough study will have to be made to present a more
comprehensive list of environmental systems analysis tools. A brief case study on four fuels
(Salix, forest residues, household waste and fossilgas) for district heating will also be made
using selected relevant tools. Results from this case study will be used in discussing the
characteristics of the tools.
