Once the energy management program has been established and has gained some credibility, it is time to initiate some more challenging components:
• Initiate site-wide maintenance programs (steam leaks, steam traps, compressed air,
etc.).
• Implement performance monitoring systems and key performance indicators.
• Conduct energy surveys using non-site personnel to generate new ideas and
perspectives. The survey team can be comprised of personnel from other sites
within the same company, consultants/specialists, vendors, and even network
peers from outside companies.
• Systematically evaluate and implement potential capital project ideas.
• Incorporate energy efficiency concepts into maintenance planning discussions,
and into all capital projects.
The activities during this phase can use a wide range of personnel, and they can
correspond to all of the categories in the departmental classification.
