Malaysia , located in Southeast Asia, consists of the Malaysian Peninsula and the States of Sabah and Sarawak on the island of Borneo. (Borneo is shared with Brunei and Indonesia). The Peninsula is bordered by Thailand in the north; the island of Singapore lies to the south. Singapore is linked to Johor, in Malaysia, by a causeway. Kuala Lumpur, known as KL, is the capital of Malaysia.

Keen windsurfers flock to Tanjung Resang, near Kampung Mawar to enjoy the challenging big waves and choppy seas, when the area has strong north-easterly winds. Tanjung Jara Beach, near Terengganu on the country's east coast, is known for its golden sand and powerful waves, which makes it a popular location for windsurfing. This beach is also suitable for snorkelling, diving and kayaking.
There are surfing waves when there is a north-easterly wind, usually between December and February. The best surfing spots in the country are mostly along the east coast in the state ofSabah. The area has a number of beaches which have consistently good waves during the monsoon season between November and March, making it a good destination for beginner and experienced surfers alike.

Rock climbing is a relatively new sport in Malaysia. Limestone outcrops can be found throughout the country and there are sandstone mountains in Sarawak and alpine granite walls in Sabah. The potential for new climbing areas to develop in the country is vast. The existing crags have routes of all levels of difficulty.
The majority of the developed crags are around Kuala Lumpur. The most popular include Bukit Takun to the north of the city and the Batu Caves, which has eight different crags. Most of the existing routes are fully bolted sport climbs for which the French grading system is used. Traditionally protected climbs can be found on the alpine granite.
