Following an AMI, the appearance of protein markers in the blood results from cellular necrosis initiated by an ischemic event. Those proteins that are present in the highest concentrations and those that are most soluble appear in the blood first, e.g., myoglobin. The structural and mitochondrial proteins of the myocyte appear later following infarction, e.g., CK-MB and proteins of the troponin complex, including troponin I.
