The cracks of concrete are fast transport routes for chloride, but the effect of cracks
is mitigated by poorly-known mechanisms such as self-healing and crack blocking.
The current models of chloride diffusion do not cover the effect of cracks, voids, or
compaction defects. The Nordtest Method NT BUILD 492 describes the method
used to determine the chloride migration coefficient in concrete. The experiment is
a non-steady-state test with an external power supply to carry chloride ions to
concrete. The test specimens described in the NT BUILD method are intact. In this
research the specimens will have artificial cracking
