Damage of individual building is usually evaluated based on international coding schemes. Such schemes describe in detail possible damages to different structural elements of a building; these codes are developed for different types of buildings. Civil engineers of ITU have developed such a scheme. The experts have derived a very detailed form for different building types, characterising the different damage indicators of a building. These forms have to be filled out on the spot, i.e. on the site of the damaged buildings. They integrate geometric features, such as the bending of a column and the length of a crack, but also qualitative measures such as the material of a wall, etc.
