The Logistics Planner is responsible for assisting in building and maintaining the carrier base, including private fleet where applicable, to support the Mt Vernon shipping sites, across all transportation modes including truck, intermodal, rail and export. This carrier base will need to meet the cost, service, and volume requirements of the plant and the customers it serves. This includes ongoing communications, performance reviews, and negotiations with the established carriers, as well as prospecting for new carriers and new transportation modes that add value and strengthen the established base. Incumbent is also responsible for managing all load tendering function activities for their assigned plants and affiliated warehouses, in a manner that ensures cost effective transportation of finished goods and inbound raw materials at service levels that meet corporate and plant objectives.
This position will use computer applications to determine shipping requirements, measure carrier performance, manage shipment reliability, perform cost/ service analyses, and coordinate activities related to shipment scheduling through delivery.
The Logistics Planner position is also responsible for tracking various inventory movements, and planning activities, including inter-unit transfer orders (IUTs) and Return Materials Authorization (RMAs). The Logistics Planner is the site’s key liaison between the Plant, Sales, Supply Chain Planning, Transportation and Customer Care, communicating and resolving issues and barriers to meet required service and cost targets.
Also, this position provides support for any other logistics functions as assigned by the Logistics Manager.
