The relatively frequent occurrence of a new cytoplamic microsporidian
that infected only hepatopancreatic tubule epithelial
cells of MSGS-affected P. monodon (Chayaburakul et al., 2004) provided
an opportunity to study its development and taxonomy. This
study focused mostly on histopathological and ultrastructural features
of the parasite, but also included analysis of a portion of its
SSU rRNA gene and comparison the sequence to those of other
microsporidians in public databases.
