The height of the liquid on the discharge side of the pump is called the static discharge head. The height of the liquid on the suction side of the pump is called the static suction head. The total of the two heads is called the total static head. The total head is the sum of the pressure head, velocity head and total static head that is exerted on the liquid in a flow from one point to another.
