The results of the temperature dependent study of this rea- ction in water solution and in ethanol-water mixtures sho- wed a second order rate constant. The rate constants of the reaction in both ethanol-water mixtures and water solutio- ns decreased steadily with increase in temperatures. It cou- ld be asserted that the reaction was not favoured at high temperatures in water. The results of the thermodynamic parameters in both media showed small negative values of Ea and ΔH and a large positive ΔG҂ which clearly showed that the reaction was not spontaneous in both ethanol- water mixtures and water solution over the considered te- mperature range. Reactions exhibiting these negative acti- vation energies are reported typically to be barrierless rea- ctions, in which the reaction proceeding relies on the capt- ure of the molecules in a potential well. Other than these reasons it could be asserted that this reaction is a barrierle- ss reaction both in water solution and ethanol-water mixt- ures.
