A “drama”erupted after a buffet restaurant owner in Chiang Mai was rebuffed for fining customers 100 baht for leaving too much food to waste.
“Am I so wrong for fining customers 100 baht for leaving this much food,’’ the owner of Chum Phae Nua Kata Chiang Mai wrote on her Facebook.
Photos uploaded by the owners show a large amount of uncooked meat left on more than a dozen plates. According to the post, a group of about 20 men cursed the owner of the all-youcan-eat BBQ after she charged them 100 baht extra because they failed to clear their plates.
The owner said the angry diners paid the 5,000 baht bill but refused to pay the fine.
“They all railed at me. I’m just one woman. If you’re the owner, would you do the same, or let it go? It’s the first time I have cried about a customer in 20 years,’’ the owner wrote.
Most netizens were on the owner’s side, saying the 100-baht fine was small compared to the large amount of food left on the table.
One Facebook user said diners were gluttonous and should take only what they know they can eat. The food on many of the plates appeared untouched.
