It wasn’t the best morning for Team RWBY, far from it to be frank. Blake couldn't find her bow, Yang had nearly killed them both by accidentally shifting the bed and loosening the book stacks, Ruby woke up late, and Weiss was still out of it from her chat with Herald. Herald himself didn't fare a good morning either. Even though the addition of his teammates allowed him access to a real room with real beds he slept outside where he could. Unfortunately for him the girls that followed him had to stay with him as a makeshift team so they complained about him making them sleep outside instead of taking the room that the students they disposed of used to own. Even Team JNPR had their own form of a rough night and they all seemed to have bags under their eyes and slouch when they walked. When Glynda's voice boomed over loudspeakers from around the school saying that there was a meeting that was mandatory for all students and staff to attend you could imagine the annoyance from everyone.
Even so, they all trudged towards the great hall where they held announcements and assemblies. Ozpin stood at the Microphone, Glynda next to him as always, but he was also surrounded by the other teachers and two police officers.
"Attention everyone. I know it's still early for you all but there are a few things that need to be addressed." Ozpin pushed up his glasses and took a sip from his mug. Glynda typed something into her tablet and images of stores with their glass smashed and police tape surrounding them appeared on a large screen above them both. "In the recent weeks there have been multiple robberies all between similar shops in Vale. The VPD have informed me that all these shops are distributors or refiners of Dust and that they are running out of available manpower to stop all the robberies being committed at once. Luckily for them they received a tip from one of the previous members of one heist gone bad that his boss is going to be attacking a shipment of dust arriving by air in two weeks. Until that time the VPD have asked me to allow the two top students in Beacon to help them prepare for this robbery and hopefully catch the criminal committing them." Ozpin motioned to Glynda to take the announcement from there and she stepped up to the microphone.
"Now since it is up to us to determine the two top students in the academy, Myself and the other teachers have come up with a contest to determine those two. We will be launching you into the emerald forest akin to when you were initiated and you will hunt Grimm to determine your place. The two students with the highest Grimm count will be dispatched to aid the VPD in their endeavors." Teams JNPR, RWBY, and HOME all gasped at the information and chatted silently about who would be selected and why it was only two and not the four of a team. "However, there is a catch. You are all in singles, you cannot pair up with any other students or teammates, if you do you will be disqualified no matter how high your count is." And the room fell silent. How could most of them survive alone when they had already formed such strength within their own teams? Herald smirked and cracked his neck before slightly shaking in his own anticipation. Ruby looked over to him and tilted her head in confusion.
"Herald?" Ruby's calling brought team RWBY's attention to Herald and he looked over to them.
"Yeah? What's up?" Herald cracked his knuckles and shook his hands out.
"You seem, off..." Blake noted. Herald looked confused but quickly understood what they meant. He laughed a little shakily to himself and was nudged by Eli before continuing.
"Nah, I'm just excited. One thing that I've had to do for almost my whole life was kill Grimm. I'm better at that than just sparring, watch me." Herald laughed again.
"You sure?" Yang stated putting hands on her hips. "I mean you'll be on your own without any help from us so what happens if you get cornered?" Weiss looked from Yang to Herald with a slight frown on her face, just because she was confused didn't mean she liked the idea of herald being hurt.
"That won’t happen, but if you want to be worried over nothing then I won’t stop you.." Herald put his hands behind his head and leaned back a little before Glynda continued her speech.
"That being said, you have time to prepare yourselves tonight and are expected to be at Beacon Cliffs tomorrow morning. Good luck to you all." All the teachers and police exited the stage and the students poured out through the doors. Herald shot off to an adjacent building fairly quickly which earned looks to his new team by the others.
"Don't look at us, we just got here." They all said in unison before walking off in another direction.
"OK then. Weiss, Blake, Yang, we need to train for tomorrow, Even if we don't get selected as top two I don't want anyone being hurt out there." Ruby voiced her concerns to the group and stuck her hand in the center of them all. In response she earned smiles from the group.
"Don't worry sis." Yang cheered with a slam of her own hand on top of Ruby's.
"Yeah we'll be alright, even if we don't fight together we're always a team." Blake continued with enthusiasm. She added her hand to the pile and her bow twitched.
"And We'll all try our best to come out on top!" Weiss added and she place her hand on the very top.
"GO TEAM RWBY!" They all yelled and lifted their hands into the air. They walked back to their room to stock up before leaving for a training ground.
