FUTURE OF HCV THERAPY
Therapy for HCV will likely be completely revolutionized
in the next 10-20 years. Trials for second-generation
protease inhibitors are in process, as well as trials with
newer agents, such as polymerase inhibitors and NS5
agents.15 These medications will likely involve fewer pills
and less frequent dosing schedules, as well as higher SVR
rates and shorter treatment duration. Since pegylated
interferon represents a limiting factor for some individuals
pursuing treatment, eliminating this agent from the
treatment regimen is a goal of future therapy.
