The average duration of diabetes was 8.85 years,
with 90% reporting that they had received formal diabetes education within the past
year. The age-group of the sample spanned from 61 to 85 years of age, reported in
decades of life, with the most populated group being in the 61–70-year-old range.
The sample was well educated; 41% ( n = 50) had a 4-year or college degree, and
24% ( n = 29) had a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma. The sample
represented largely a middle socioeconomic strata, with just 17% earning under
$30,000 annually, while 26% reported earning incomes over $70,000 annually.
